Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson & Associate Professor, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, & Librarian (In-charge), East West University has been honored as an Invited Speaker in the third World Literacy Summit which was held at Sheldonian, Oxford University, United Kingdom on 25th-28th March 2018. This summit has been organized to provide a platform for debate, discussion, and sharing of knowledge between some of the world’s most ardent literacy and educational leaders, institutions, organizations and pioneers. In addition, it was a unique opportunity for delegates to collaborate, share ideas, learn and be united to close the global literacy gap in the 21st century. Dr. Begum presented her paper entitled “Girlhood to womanhood: Awareness of menstrual literacy”. She talked about the necessity of the awareness of menstrual literacy among adolescent girls. She also highlighted the initiatives of Government Organizations (GOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) regarding the significant progress in reducing poverty, improving food security and providing better health services for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Along with, she laid emphasis on the possibilities for the collaboration between the Health Information Professionals (HIPs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) for promoting menstrual literacy among adolescent girls in Bangladesh.
