EWUCRT Organised First Online Research Seminar

Jun 18, 2020

East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) organized a Research Seminar titled “Rohingya Persecutions in Myanmar: Ethnic Cleansing or Genocide? A Theoretical and Empirical Study” on 17 June 2020 at 11.50 am on Google Meet app. The speaker of the seminar was Md. Pizuar Hossain, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, EWU. The seminar was chaired by Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor, EWU. At the end of the seminar, Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director, EWUCRT gave the vote of thanks.

The speaker presented both qualitative and quantitative data of his study and made a comprehensible distinction between ethnic cleansing and genocide from the current context to the Rohingya crisis. On the basis of Dr. Gregory H. Stanton’s 10-stage model of genocide and the patterns of crimes committed against the Rohingya ethnic community in Myanmar, he argued that the Rohingya persecutions clearly bear the hallmarks of genocide.
