EWU Researchers Win Best Paper Award at International AI Conference in Washington D.C.
A research team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, East West University has earned international recognition by winning the Best Paper Award at the 5th International Conference on Applied Intelligence and Informatics, held from 28 to 30 October 2025 in Washington D.C., USA.
The award-winning paper, titled “CodeMixEcomEmotion: A Large-Scale Bangla–English Review Corpus and Transformer-Based Benchmark for Fine-Grained Emotion Detection,” was authored by Aritra Das, Karib Shams, Md. Rakibul Hasan, Mohammad Rifat Ahmmad Rashid, Raihan Ul Islam, Shamim H. Ripon, and Ahmed Wasif Reza.
The research introduces a pioneering large-scale Bangla–English code-mixed emotional review dataset along with a transformer-based benchmarking framework for analyzing fine-grained emotions in e-commerce reviews. The work aims to advance multilingual Natural Language Processing (NLP), particularly for under-resourced languages such as Bangla, enabling more accurate emotion recognition in digital communication and online marketplaces.
This achievement underscores the team’s commitment to high-impact and socially meaningful AI research, demonstrating the growing global contribution of Bangladeshi researchers in the fields of machine learning, language technology, and data science.
The university has extended heartfelt congratulations to the research team for bringing this prestigious honor to the institution and to Bangladesh.
