East West University Joins Hands with International Labour Organization (ILO) to Integrate International Labour Standards into Labour Law Curriculum

East West University (EWU) is pleased to announce the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, 08 May 2025 in Hotel Holiday Inn, Dhaka with the International Labour Organization (ILO) as part of an initiative titled “Planting the Seeds of Change: Empowering Lecturers to Shape the Future of Labour Law and Lawyers in Bangladesh” to integrate International Labour Standards in labour law curricula in Bangladesh. This MoU is part of the “Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh (ADWIB)” project, supported under the Team Europe Initiative on Decent Work, funded by the European Union, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden. A total of 13 universities in Bangladesh have joined this transformative initiative. East West University proudly joins this pioneering cohort to play a leadership role in promoting socially responsible legal education. The MoU, valid for a period of two years, outlines collaborative efforts to design a model labour law curriculum grounded in International Labour Standards (ILS), enhance the capacity of legal educators through peer learning and mentoringbridge academic knowledge with practical experiences related to labour rights and decent work principles and foster the development of a new generation of labour lawyers committed to social justice. The MoU signing was supported and endorsed by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University. The delegation from East West University in the MoU Signing Ceremony comprised of Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, East West University, Professor Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, East West University, Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Law, East West University, Ms. Nabila Farhin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University, and Ms. Nadia Rahaman, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, East West University. Professor Dr. Farzana Akhter signed the MoU as the Designated Signatory on behalf of East West University. To ensure smooth coordination and timely implementation of all MoU activities, Ms. Nabila Farhin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law shall act as the Focal Person on behalf of the Department of Law, East West University. This partnership between East West University and the International Labour Organization (ILO) reflects a shared vision to build a just, inclusive, and equitable society. By integrating global labour standards into legal education, East West University aims to prepare the next generation of legal professionals to uphold the rights and dignity of workers in Bangladesh and beyond.
