Dr. Md. Sohel Rana has been honored as a Speaker and Chair of Special Topic Sessions in the “62nd ISI World Statistics Congress 2019”, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematical & Physical Sciences, EWU, has been honored as a Speaker in the “62nd ISI World Statistics Congress 2019”. The conference was held on 18 – 23 August, 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This Congress was jointly organised by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia; Bank Negara Malaysia and Malaysia Institute of Statistics, and supported by the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia. The biennial World Statistics Congresses of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and its seven Associations are very special events, brought together the vibrancy and diversity of the international statistical community in a congress full of invigorating presentations, discussion, gatherings, greetings, connections and networking. There were 2,500 delegates, comprising statistical researchers, academia, industry practitioners, analysts and policymakers, from all over the world to share insights on development in statistical science and to advance application of statistics for discovery, innovation and decision making. About 1,300 papers in various statistical disciplines and applications have been presented and discussed over a period of five days. Dr. Rana has presented his paper titled on “Outlier detection in poission regression model- Evidence from Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey data” in the special topic session “STS- 444: Advances in modelling demographic data”. He was also the chair of another special topic session “STS-505: Practical Applications of robust methods for modeling and analyzing environmental-related data having outliers”.
