Task description:
Under the overall guidance of the Assistance FAOR Programmes and direct supervision of the Senior Monitoring Officer; in charge of field activities in emergency, the incumbent will will work closely with FAO emergency team, local authorities, village committees and other community volunteers to sup-port FAO’s activities related to early warming, anticipatory action, and disaster response and recovery. Specifically, the UN Community volunteer will :
• Liaise with local government leaders, CSO, community elders and humanitarian network.
• Disseminate information to the community regarding the emergency and planning of the response activities and actors. • Facilitate in local languages awareness-raising sessions through home visits, group discussions and community meetings in the affected communities.
• Support the organization of workshops, community meetings, trainings, and other learning events.
• Support as needed safe and timely distribution of emergency response good and services, such as agricultural inputs and livelihoods.
• Contribute to various assessment activities, such as need assessment, market disruption, loss and damage and impact assessment.
• Support post distribution monitoring and reporting on emergency response activities, including the number of people (gender- and age-disaggregated) reached, inputs and goods distributed, human interest stories, challenges and recommendations.
• Report protection and sexual exploitation risks identified to FAO staff, for referrals and information sharing purposes.
• Disseminate relevant social behavior change communication or Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials in local languages, and ensure they are easily accessible to affected populations.
• Perform other duties as required, including for other FAO projects in Bangladesh. Results/Expected Output:
• Community meetings, trainings, workshops and awareness raising events are planned and implemented smoothly.
• Assessments and monitoring activities in the affected population carried out.
• Timely provision of agriculture inputs and other emergency response good and services.
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for development during assignment such as specific quantification of activities participated in and skills and competencies developed.
Required experience
• 1 years of experience in volunteering in community
• Personal commitment, motivation, and interest in the role.
• Ability to read and write in Bangali language.
• Positive qualities including trustworthiness, the respect of the community, volunteer spirit, gender and cultural sensitivity, ability to work within a team and willingness to be trained.
• The capacity to mobilize and work with the community.
