EWUCRT Hosts A knowledge-sharing Seminar

Feb 05, 2026

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) hosted a vital knowledge-sharing seminar titled “Sharing Cropland for Energy Generation: Prospects and Challenges of Agrivoltaics in Bangladesh.” The event took place at the S.M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery on 05 February 2026, at the university campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka. The keynote presenter, Dr. Md. Ryyan Khan, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at EWU, shared groundbreaking insights into the integration of solar panel systems within Bangladesh’s agricultural landscape. His presentation focused specifically on the technical feasibility of implementing agrivoltaics in rice fields—crops that are traditionally sensitive to shadows—and how innovative engineering can mitigate these challenges to maximize land-use efficiency.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, who highlighted the university's commitment to supporting research that directly impacts the nation’s sustainability goals. The proceedings began with welcome remarks from Professor Dr. Sohel Rana, Executive Director of EWUCRT.

The session was attended by Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, alongside Deans, Chairpersons of various departments, faculty members, and a large number of students. Their engagement underscored EWU’s dedication to fostering a high-level academic environment and driving innovation in renewable energy.

The seminar concluded with a vibrant and interactive Q&A and observation session, where participants discussed the economic and environmental scalability of agrivoltaics in Bangladesh. In his concluding remarks, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shams Rahman expressed his optimism for the project and offered a formal vote of thanks to the presenter and attendees for their contributions to this critical academic discourse.
