1st International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management

The Inaugural Ceremony of the 1st International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM 2019)  was held at BPATC, Savar, Dhaka on 25 April 2019. The Conference is being jointly organized by the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) and the Department of the Information Studies and Library Management, East West University. This Conference is the first initiative taken in Bangladesh of its kind focusing on one of the burning issues of 21st Century, Agenda 2030.

Mr. M. A. Mannan, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Planning, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the Inaugural Ceremony as the Chief Guest.  Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor and Founder Vice Chancellor of East West University were present at the event as the Inaugural Keynote Speaker. Professor Dr. Fakrul Alam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University graced the program as Special Guest.  The honorable Conference Advisor, Dr. M Aslam Alam, Rector, BPATC and Senior Secretary to the Government was present at the Inaugural Program Chair. The Conference Chairs, Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University and Dr. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Director (PPR), BPATC were also present at the occasion. The Chief Guest of the Program emphasized on the importance of Information and Knowledge Management for Sustainable development and also acknowledged the initiative taken by both the organizers. At the Speech of the Inaugural Keynote Speaker, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin highlighted the concept of Information Industry as a new paradigm of economic transformation.

Around 320 participants have participated from 25 countries among them a number of local presenters were 90, local participants were 200, Invited Speakers and International Participants 36. Total 88 papers were presented at the Conference which includes 5 Keynotes paper. Along with these, 18 Pechakuchas (lightning talk) and 12 Poster Presentation has been conducted from 26 April-27 April 2019.

The Closing Ceremony was graced by Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Honorable Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs) and Former Principal Secretary to the Honorable Prime Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Ceremony was Chaired by honorable Dr. M Aslam Alam, Rector, BPATC and Senior Secretary to the Government. The Ceremony concluded with a brief Summary Presentation of the Conference by the Chairs and Certificates awarding to the Invited Speakers and participants.

The theme of the conference was “Next Generation Information and Knowledge Dissemination to realize the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”. The theme is focused to determine the significance of knowledge management strategy to accumulate, store, manage and disseminate the intellectual output of the knowledge society to attain the sustainable development goals. Inclusive knowledge society, transparent knowledge ecosystem and dynamic knowledge markets can play a vital role in achieving the Agenda 2030.
