Celebration of Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2021

The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University as part of their week-long programs to celebrate the Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2021 organized a webinar on the theme of “Media and Information Literacy for Attaining Sustainable Development Goals” on 31 October 2021.

The Keynote Speakers of the webinar was Dr. M Aslam Alam, Chairman, Bangladesh Institute for Information Literacy and Sustainable Development & Former Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh and Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Professor, Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka joined the webinar as the Special Guest. Dr. Fouzia Mannan, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, East West University chaired the webinar. Dr. Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the department gave the welcome speech.

The eminent speakers focused their discussion on the role of MIL for attaining different goals of SDG. Around 80 participants joined the webinar through Google Meet. The viewers shared their opinions, views and queries in the comments section. The participation of the audiences made the webinar lively and interactive.

 The webinar concluded with remarks from the program Chair. She thanked the audience and the Speakers for their engaging participation. As a part of the celebration of Global MIL Week 2021, an “Essay Competition” was arranged on “Media and Information Literacy for Public Good”. The name of the winners for this competition was also announced during the program.
