Department of Economics Organised a Webinar on COVID 19 Outbreak

The Department of Economics, East West University held a public webinar on August 17, 2020. Prof. A.K. Enamul Haque and Prof. Syed Basher presented a paper titled "Public Policy Lessons from the Covid-19 Outbreak: How to Deal with it in the Post-Pandemic World". Mr. M.A. Mannan, Hon'ble Minister of Planning attended the webinar as the Chief Guest. Professor Shamsul Alam, Member GED, Ministry of Planning attended as a Special Guest. Dr. Mohammad Mushtuq Husain, Advisor, Covid-19 pandemic control, IEDCR; Dr. A.S.M. Alamgir, Principal Scientific Officer, IEDCR, and Dr. Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, Centre for Policy Dialogue were presented as discussants of the paper. The event was also attended by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University, Professor M.M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, East West University, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr. Biva Arani Mallik, Chairperson of the Department of Economics, East West University. Two important findings of the paper are that (a) providing universal health care is a significant public health strategy for countries to help deal with similar outbreaks in the future; and (b) tacking air pollution is a win-win solution, not only for better preparedness against Covid-19 or other airborne diseases but also for environmental and climate change.
