East West University Economics Club hosted its much-anticipated wall magazine competition named” "Mapping the Worldwide Economic Crisis.”

On May 9, 2024. The competition, themed "Mapping the Worldwide Economic Crisis," brought together students from diverse backgrounds to explore and articulate the intricacies of global economic challenges.

The event consisted of 5 segments:

Brainstorming session

Topic submission with short summary

Wall magazine exhibition

Extemporary Speech and Presentation

Prize giving Ceremony

A total of 47 teams registered and after a thorough selection process, 20 teams rivaled for the competition from across 8 universities, both public and private. The registration fee was 100 BDT.

The brainstorming session was held on the 22nd of April 2024 at 3:00 PM online via Google Meet. It was instructed by our guest speakers Dr. Syed Abul Basher, Professor, Department of Economics and Dr. Bijoy P. Barua, professor, department of Economics.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Advisor and Founder Vice Chancellor of East West University, was a momentous occasion. Dr. Farashuddin's keynote address underscored the significance of understanding and addressing economic crises in an increasingly interconnected world, setting the stage for a day of insightful exploration.

The judges of the competition were, Dr. Biva Arani Mallik, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mashrur, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Saiyeeda Saniya Munim, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics. The judges visited the exhibition venue and examined each magazine to provide their scores based on execution, presentation, content, creativity, speech, citation and a few other aspects of the projects. Other faculty members also visited the venue and provided their votes for the wall magazines that they thought best.

As visitors navigated the exhibition hall, they encountered an array of topics, from the historic Asian Financial Crisis to contemporary challenges like navigating the age of automation and managing inflation in Bangladesh's economy. Each presentation reflected meticulous research, innovative thinking, and a deep commitment to unraveling the mysteries of economic turbulence.

The climax of the event was the prize-giving ceremony, where the winners were honored for their outstanding contributions. Professor Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University, presented the coveted crests, certificates, and generous cash prizes to the deserving winners. Special guest Ishfaq Ilahi Chowdhury, Treasurer of East West University, commended all participants for their dedication and passion for economic inquiry.

The prize winners of the competition were:
WINNER: Team Trio from Another Planet, who presented on the topic: Debt, Default and Desperation: Unraveling the Sri Lankan Economic Crisis.
1st RUNNER UP: 
Team Eco Wizards, who presented on the topic: The Bengal Famine
2nd RUNNER UP: 
Team Econo Bees, who presented on the topic: China’s Debt Crisis Became the Reason of its Economic Downfall.
MOST CREATIVE MIND:
Team Eco Wizards, who presented on the topic: The Bengal Famine

As the exhibition came to a close, it was clear that the competition was not just an event; it was a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in tackling global challenges head-on.
