East West University Moot Court Team has won the “Champions Trophy”

The EWU Moot Court Team has won the Champions Trophy in the 1st Professor Shah Alam Constitutional Law Virtual Moot Court Competition 2020, organized by the Empowerment through Law of the Common People (ELCOP), Dhaka, Bangladesh. This winning team of three law students of EWU, namely Nusrat Jahan Nishat, Kazi Miftahul Jannath, and R.K.M. Rabin Ahmed was trained by Md. Pizuar Hossain, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, EWU. We are proud to mention that along with the Champions Trophy, Nusrat Jahan Nishat has been awarded the Best Rebellious Lawyer award of the competition. 

The competition comprises a total of 5 distinct rounds, including submission of memoranda, preliminary, quarter-final, semi-final, and final. Total 21 teams of both private and public universities of Bangladesh participated in the submission of memoranda round of the competition. Of total 21 teams, total 16 teams qualified to the preliminary round, including Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Canadian University of Bangladesh, Daffodil International University, Eastern University, East West University, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University, Metropolitan University (Sylhet), Southeast University, Sylhet International University, University of Dhaka, University of Rajshahi (Department of Law), University of Rajshahi (Department of Law and Land Administration), and Varendra University.

The oral rounds of the competition were held from 21st to 23rd August 2020 on Zoom. The sitting judges of the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, advocates, academics, and researchers adjudicated various rounds of the competition. Honourable Justice M Imman Ali, Honourable Judge of Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Mr. Z I Khan Panna, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; and Dr. Ridwanul Haque, Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka adjudicated the final round of the competition. The final result was announced by founder of ELCOP, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka. The two finalist teams were the East West Moot Court Team and the Canadian University of Bangladesh Moot Court Team.

The EWU community is extremely delighted and proud that the EWU Moot Court Team has excelled in the very first national virtual moot competition of Bangladesh. The team is thankful to the EWU Community, and faculty members of the Department of Law specially Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan, Chairperson & Assistant Professor; Riad Mahmud, Lecturer; Nadia Rahaman, Lecturer; and Sayeed Hossain Sarwar, Lecturer for their immense support.
