Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) launches “Entrepreneur Talks”

May 26, 2024

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) at East West University (EWU) organized its first "Entrepreneur Talks" session on Thursday, May 23, 2024. This series is designed to ignite the students’ entrepreneurial spirit, expand their knowledge, and boost their networking opportunities. It will feature influential entrepreneurs who will share their powerful stories and invaluable insights, encouraging students to chase their dreams and elevate the EDC's reputation within the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Dr. A.M. Tanvir Hossain, Director of EDC, welcomed the guests and moderated the event. Professor A. K. Enamul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, attended the event as the Program Chair and reiterated the importance of entrepreneurship education. He highlighted the key features of the Post Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship Development (PGDED) program offered by EDC.

The invited speaker for this first event was Ms. Sabira Mehrin, Founder and CEO of Wander Woman, who opened the world of safe travel for Bangladeshi women. Ms. Mehrin is globally recognized by prestigious awards such as the Diana Award, the Women in Leadership (WIL) Inspiring Women Award, and the Bangabandhu Innovation Grant (BIG). Her travel platform empowers over 1,50,000+ Bangladeshi women worldwide. While sharing insights from her entrepreneurial journey with students, she emphasized the significance of being proactive and “taking the leap” in transforming one’s idea into reality. She believes that the key is to begin, and the rest will follow. On a personal note, she also mentioned that she was thrilled to be invited to EWU as she had been a student of Professor Dr. Farashuddin while at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka.

Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser and Founder Vice-Chancellor of EWU, shared his concluding remarks as the Chief Guest. He motivated EWU students to pursue innovation and entrepreneurship as an alternative to paid employment. Dr. Tanvir Hussain ended the session with a vote of thanks to all and, on behalf of EDC, Dr. Biva Arani Mallik (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics) presented the invited guest with an EWU souvenir gift bag. Faculty members, students and staff members from across various departments and offices of the university attended the event.
