Orientation Program for the Newly Recruited Faculty Members

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) organized an Orientation Program for the newly recruited faculty members of EWU who joined in Spring 2023 semester. It was a two-day event held on 03-04 February 2023. Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser, and Founder Vice Chancellor, and Founder President, Board of Directors of EWU, was present in the program and shared his scholarly insights. Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU, provided his guidance to implement OBE at the tertiary level and Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor, EWU discussed his expert knowledge on OBE. The orientation program began with a welcome address by the director of IQAC Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon.

Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chief Adviser, Founder Vice Chancellor, and Founder President of Board of Directors shared his scholarly insights regarding effective teaching-learning practices at the university level. He provided constructive and realistic guidance to achieve the standards of quality education to meet the requirements of the current society. He also inspired the newly recruited faculty members to work with dedication and commitment to upholding the image of this institution.

Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, gave a presentation on Advocacy for Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for Universities.” He guided the newly recruited faculty members to apply the OBE principles to prepare their students to face the challenges of The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor delivered a thoughtful lecture on “Teaching Practices at University Level” and inspired the newly recruited faculty members to invest their best efforts to ensure the expected classroom outcomes. He also thanked IQAC for organizing the orientation program.

In the panel discussion Professor Dr. Mohamad Ruhul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, Professor Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, and Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences discussed “Teaching Practices at EWU.” In the Q&A session, the newly recruited faculty members engaged in an interactive discussion.

In the Day 2 program, four distinguished resource persons shared their scholarly knowledge on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Academic Adviser, EWU lectured on “Art of Good Teaching,” Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Golam Azam, Professor-Cum-Advisor, Department of Business Administration, EWU presented on “OBE Assessment Methods,” Professor Dr. Khairul Alam, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EWU discussed “Quality Assurance in Higher Education,” and Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, EWU lectured on “Experiences on Outcome-Based Teaching and Learning.” In the two-day event, the multiple sessions mainly focused on pedagogical approaches, curriculum development, teaching-learning materials, course outline preparation, and evaluation and assessment to implement OBE principles.

The orientation program was immensely appreciated by the participants. Nineteen new faculty members from different departments participated in this event. Professor Dr. Moriam Quadir, Additional Director, IQAC, EWU anchored the program. The director expressed his gratitude to all the respected guests, Deans, speakers, and newly recruited faculty members for their contributions and participation.
