East West University Environmental & Social Club organized Eco Fair 4.0: From Waste To Worth

With the aim of encouraging the use of environmentally friendly products, promoting sustainable living, and contributing to a more livable planet, the East West University Environmental & Social Club (EWUESC) organized the fourth edition of its traditional Eco Fair 4.0: From Waste To Worth. The two-day fair was held on October 4 and 5, 2026, at the East West University Courtyard. The Biotech Club, East West University, showcases the projects on this theme and collaborated on the seminar segment of the fair.

The fair was held at 10:00 AM in the presence of university authorities, club moderators, members, and students, with a symbolic release of white pigeons. The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice-Chancellor of East West University, Mr. Mansoor Mumin, Member, Board of Trustees, East West University, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, East West University. Also, EWUESC moderators Riad Mahmud and Nadia Rahman, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, along with club members and students were present.

As part of Eco Fair 4.0, a special seminar was organized under the theme “Don’t Think Waste, Think Opportunity: Converting Resources to Drive Economic Growth and Unlock Its Economic Value.” The seminar explored ways of looking at waste differently, while highlighting the potential of resource reuse, sustainable initiatives, and the economic value that can be created from materials often considered waste. Mr. Mansoor Mumin, Member, Board of Trustees, East West University, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mst. Murshida Mahbub, Associate Professor, University of Dhaka. Sayed Md. Shafayat, Senior Assistant Secretary, Law and Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Joint District Judge, attended as the Guest of Honour.

One of the main attractions of the fair was the display of environmentally friendly products and initiatives demonstrating how discarded materials can be given new uses. The fair featured products made from discarded plastic bottles, reusable and sustainable items, locally produced handloom sarees, pottery, and other environmentally conscious initiatives. The fair’s own decorations also reflected its environmental focus, with collected used plastic bottles being repurposed into decorative elements.

Beyond raising environmental awareness, Eco Fair 4.0 also provided a platform for students and small entrepreneurs to showcase environmentally responsible products and initiatives. The participating stalls featured ventures by university students as well as small entrepreneurs, bringing together environmental awareness, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility in one space. The two-day event drew enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and visitors, making the fair lively throughout its duration. Through its displays, stalls, and seminar, Eco Fair 4.0 presented the idea of “From Waste To Worth” not merely as a theme, but as a practical approach to rethinking resources, sustainability, and the possibilities within what is often discarded.
