Orientation Program for the Newly Recruited Faculty Members

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of EWU organized an Orientation Program for the newly recruited faculty members of EWU who joined in Fall 2023, and Spring 2024 semesters. The event was held on 16-17 February 2024. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU, were present at the inaugural session as chief guest and special guest respectively.
The orientation program began with a welcome address by the director of IQAC, Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon. In his speech, Professor Dr. Shams Rahman emphasized the importance of connecting classroom practices with social needs. He also discussed the importance of research for academics, modern practices of teaching, and maintenance of teaching responsibilities. Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, delivered a lecture on the nature of teaching-learning activities at tertiary level. He also discussed philosophy of teaching and OBE principles for classroom practices.
In the panel discussion Professor Dr. Mohamad Ruhul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, Professor Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, and Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences discussed about “Teaching at EWU”. There was an interactive Q&A session at the end of the program.
In the Day 2 program, four distinguished resource persons shared their scholarly knowledge on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and Additional director of IQAC, EWU lectured on “Experiences of Outcome-Based Teaching and Learning”. Professor Dr. Khairul Alam, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EWU discussed “Quality Assurance in Higher Education”, Professor Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics discussed the ways of effective teaching under the title “Learning and Teaching in Higher Education”, and Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Md. Golam Azam, Professor-Cum-Advisor, Department of Business Administration, EWU presented “Teaching and Learning Assessment a la Outcome-based Education (OBE)”, In the two-day event, the multiple sessions mainly focused on the techniques of effective teaching, outcome-based education and quality assurance at university level.
The orientation program was immensely appreciated by the participants. Twenty six new faculty members from different departments participated in this event. Professor Dr. Moriam Quadir, Additional Director, IQAC, EWU anchored the program. The director of IQAC expressed his gratitude to all the respected guests, Deans, speakers, and newly recruited faculty members for their contributions and participation.
