Orientation Program for the Newly Recruited Faculty Members

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) hosted a day-long Orientation Program on June 28, 2025, for the newly recruited faculty members who joined in the Summer 2025 semester. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU was present at the inaugural session as chief guest. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Sufia Islam, Director of IQAC.
The orientation program began with a welcome address by the IQAC director, Professor Dr. Sufia Islam, who also introduced the new faculty members to the distinguished guests.
Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, congratulated the newly recruited faculty members and informed them that they were selected through a fair and competitive recruitment process, involving candidates from both public and private universities in Bangladesh. He urged them to ensure quality teaching, conduct impactful research, and publish in reputed journals to help improve the university’s global ranking. He also emphasized that the duties and responsibilities of a university teacher go beyond simply delivering lectures. Instead, they should act as facilitators of learning, encouraging students to engage actively, think critically, and develop problem-solving skills.
In the panel discussion Professor Dr. Anup Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics; Professor Dr. Farzana Akhter, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; and Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering elaborately discussed the “Teaching at EWU” as panelists. There was an interactive Q&A session at the end of the session.
Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering and Additional Director of IQAC, delivered a discussion on “Outcomes-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL). Professor Dr. Dilara Begum, Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Professor Dr. Abul H. M. G. Azam, Professor-Cum-Adviser from the Department of Business Administration at EWU, shared their expertise on “Teaching as a Career: Planning, Survival and Growing” and “Quality Assurance in Higher Education” with the participants.
A total of eighteen new faculty members from various departments attended the program. Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon, Additional Director, IQAC, EWU, concluded the session with a vote of thanks. Dr. Barmon expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, all Deans, Chairpersons, speakers, and faculty members for making the event successful. The participants also thanked EWU authority and IQAC for organizing the orientation program.
