On 16 March 2023, the Department of English, East West University, organized the first seminar of Spring 2023 Seminar Series. The prestigious Ekushey Podok winner in 2017 and the winner of ten Bangladesh National Film Awards, the renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker, journalist, and writer, Tanvir Mokammel, presented a documentary titled “1947 Partition in Tanvir Mokammel’s Films" at that seminar.

The piece showcased the turmoil and plights of the people of the Indian subcontinent due to 1947 partition. It incorporated clips of his films through which he tried to give voice to the refugees and shared their notion of lost home and their urge to visit their motherland which is now a foreign land. He ended the documentary with the revisitation of some uprooted families to their native land and what the current generation’s opinion about 1947 partition.

Starting from 1:30 PM at the Razia Samad Lecture Gallery, the 90-minute documentary was followed by an engaging question answer session.
