CRTEWU Hosts A Research Seminar on Brain-Computer Interface for Mobility Impaired

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) organized a research seminar on 08 May 2025 titled “A Brain Computer Interface System to Control Wheelchair for Severe Mobility Impaired Persons.” The seminar took place at the CRTEWU Seminar Room of East West University (EWU) and featured insightful presentations from leading researchers in the field.

The distinguished presenters included Professor Dr. Shamim H Ripon, Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Dr. Raihan Ul Islam, Associate Professor, Dr. Mohammad Rifat Ahmmad Rashid, Associate Professor, all from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, East West University, and Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rabiul Alam from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, BRAC University. The presenters shared their research findings and advancements in developing a brain-computer interface system designed to empower individuals with severe mobility impairments to control wheelchairs using their brain signals.

Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, served as the discussant for the seminar. Dr. Arefin provided valuable insights and perspectives on the presented research, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and potential of this innovative technology.

Following the presentations and discussion, an engaging question-and-answer session allowed attendees to interact directly with the presenters and the discussant, sparking a lively exchange of ideas and perspectives.

The seminar was chaired by Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson of CRTEWU, who guided the proceedings.

Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director of CRTEWU, Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Deputy Executive Director of CRTEWU, along with faculty members, students, and officials from CRTEWU, were also present at the event.
