Budding Researchers of the Department of English, EWU at “Discover English 2023”

Students from the Department of English, East West University attended and presented their research papers at “Discover English 2023: Student Conference on English Language and Literature” organized by American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), in collaboration with TESOL Society of Bangladesh on 18 November 2023 at AIUB Campus. A total of 128 research papers from students at the BA, MA, MPhil, and PhD levels in the disciplines of English Language and Literature from 30 public and private universities across Bangladesh were presented at this day-long conference. Tanjila Hossen, a student of MA in ELT, East West University received the “Best Presenter Award” for her paper “Assessment Rubrics: Tools to Evaluate Teaching Practicum Course of the Department of English”. Apart from her, another student from MA in TESOL, Raisa Nuzhat presented a paper titled- “The Unseen Influence of Social Media in English Language Learning at Tertiary Level”. Besides, the papers of the students from MA in English- Mohammad Yasin, Faria Rahman Mou, Aditya Bhowmic, and Afnan Binte Helel were also selected for presentation. Moreover, some undergraduate students, Nahida Jannat Oishe, Miftahul Jannat Maliha, Samia Afroz Ria, Mohammed Nur-A Amanat, and Faysal Ebne Zaman Rupok also presented their papers at the conference.

The students stated that attending the conference helped them network with researchers from different Bangladeshi universities and eventually increased their research interest. They added that the judges supported them by offering comments and evaluations based on their papers, which will enable them to write papers more effectively. They also attested that their department groomed them well for conducting independent research in their respective fields of interest.

Professor Dr. Biswajit Chanda, a member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The inauguration session was addressed by Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, Founder Member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at AIUB, while the concluding remarks were given by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor at AIUB. Moreover, on behalf of the TESOL Society of Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Sayeedur Rahman made his concluding remarks.
