EWU English Alumni Association Launch, 30 Years of the Department of English, and Grand Alumni Reunion 2026
Nov 01, 2026
The East West University (EWU) English community celebrated a momentous occasion on last Thursday 29 October 2026, marking a significant milestone in the history of the Department of English through the official launch of the EWU English Alumni Association (EWUEAA), the celebration of the Department’s 30th anniversary, and the Grand Alumni Reunion. The programme commenced with the formal announcement of the EWUEAA Ad Hoc Committee for 2026–2027, marking the beginning of a structured initiative to establish and strengthen the Alumni Association. The announcement was accompanied by the presentation of the committee’s one-year work plan, outlining its proposed activities, priorities, and objectives. The formation of the Ad Hoc Committee represents an important first step towards developing a sustainable alumni network that will facilitate communication, professional engagement, mentorship, networking, and meaningful collaboration among graduates of the Department. It also establishes a foundation for future organisational development, ensuring that the association can gradually evolve into an active and representative platform for alumni across different professional fields and generations.
One of the highlights of the programme was an engaging panel discussion featuring EWU English alumni representing diverse professional backgrounds and career trajectories. The discussion explored the evolving professional landscape for English graduates, highlighting the wide range of opportunities available beyond conventional career pathways. 10 panelists shared valuable insights into their personal and professional journeys, discussing the importance of communication skills, critical thinking, adaptability, creativity, technological proficiency, leadership, and continuous professional development. They also reflected on the ways in which an English degree can equip graduates with transferable skills that are relevant to contemporary industries, including education, corporate management, communication, entrepreneurship, development organisations, technology, and other emerging professional sectors.
The occasion was enriched by the presence of distinguished members of the university leadership and academic community. The celebration received warm wishes from Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chair of the Board of Trustees and Founder Vice-Chancellor of East West University, through a special video message. We were honored to welcome the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Honorary Advisor to the Department of English, Head of the Career Counselling Center, and current faculty members of East West University. Their participation reflected the university's continued commitment to fostering a vibrant academic community and maintaining meaningful relationships with its graduates. The gathering also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of past faculty members whose dedication, mentorship, and academic leadership have played an essential role in shaping generations of English graduates.
The cultural segment added another vibrant dimension to the evening, featuring performances by talented alumni. Through music and artistic expression, the performers demonstrated that the creative spirit nurtured within the Department continues to flourish in the lives of its graduates. The performances brought energy and warmth to the celebration, highlighting the diverse talents and enduring creative connections within the alumni community. The programme concluded with dinner, allowing participants to continue their conversations and enjoy the opportunity to reconnect in a relaxed and convivial setting.
The official launch of EWUEAA marks the beginning of a new chapter in this continuing journey. The celebration was not simply an opportunity to look back at the Department’s achievements; it was also a moment to recognise the people, relationships, and shared experiences that have shaped its identity. Over the years, the Department has contributed to the academic and professional development of numerous graduates who have gone on to establish themselves in diverse fields. Each graduate carries a part of the Department’s legacy, extending its influence through professional achievements, intellectual contributions, community engagement, and personal accomplishments. The alumni community, therefore, represents an important extension of the Department beyond the university campus.
