CRTEWU Hosts Research Seminar on Respiratory Pathogens in Dhaka City Children

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) successfully hosted a research seminar titled “Isolation, Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing of Common Respiratory Pathogens Collected from Nasopharynx of Asymptomatic School Children in Dhaka City” on October 20, 2024.

The seminar, held at the CRTEWU Seminar Room, featured presentations by a team of researchers from the Department of Pharmacy, East West University. Dr. Sufia Islam, Professor, Ms. Nishat Nasrin, Assistant Professor, Ms. Nigar Sultana Tithi, Senior Lecturer, and Dr. Farjana Khatun, Assistant Professor, shared insights into their research on the prevalence of respiratory pathogens among asymptomatic school children in Dhaka.

The discussant of the seminar was Dr. Rubhana Raqib, Senior Scientist at the Enteric and Respiratory Infections Division of icddr,b. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University, also graced the occasion with his presence and offered valuable insights to the researchers.

The research presented at the seminar aimed to shed light on the types of respiratory pathogens circulating among asymptomatic school children in Dhaka. By identifying these pathogens and assessing their antibiotic susceptibility, the researchers hope to contribute to the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies.

The seminar was conducted by Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson, CRTEWU. Professor Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director, CRTEWU, has given the introductory speech on the occasion. Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashik Mosaddik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Faculty Members, and Officials of EWUCRT of EWU attended the seminar.
