Department of Economics Arranges a Seminar on Developmental Macroeconomics

The Department of Economics at East West University (EWU) organized a seminar titled "Debunking Macroeconomic Myths in Favor of Developmental Macroeconomics" on December 6, 2026. The influential event took place at the S.M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery of EWU. The seminar featured Professor Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Honourable Chief Advisor (Ministry of Finance), Government of Bangladesh, and Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University, Australia, as the distinguished speaker. His presentation sparked an engaging discussion on challenging conventional macroeconomic assumptions and promoting policy implications that support a developmental approach worldwide.
During an interactive question-and-answer session, Professor Chowdhury provided an important update on the national economy, highlighting that the current interim government of Bangladesh has successfully managed to control the inflation rate while maintaining a positive growth rate. This information served as a significant topic for discussion regarding the government's immediate economic management policies.
The seminar was attended by notable university figures, including Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor; Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor; and Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer of the university. The presence of university leadership, together with the expertise of the speaker, underscored the event's importance in addressing critical issues in economic theory and practice relevant to both national and global development. A large number of faculty members and students from the Department of Economics participated in the seminar.
