Department of Economics Holds a Session of Economics Seminar Series at East West University

The Department of Economics at East West University successfully hosted a session of the Economics Seminar Series on July 30, 2026.
The seminar featured Professor Sadequl Islam of Laurentian University, Canada, and Professor Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University, Australia. Professor Islam discussed Bangladesh’s trade relations with the US and China, focusing on export diversification, trade competitiveness, and the challenges of LDC graduation. Professor Chowdhury highlighted Bangladesh’s structural transformation and emphasized the need for productive policies, institutional reforms, human capital development, and sustainable economic growth.
The program concluded with remarks from Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of East West University. Mr. Nowshad Shamsul Arefin, Member, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque, Director General, BIDS, faculty members, and students actively participated in the seminar, reflecting EWU’s commitment to academic excellence and to meaningful discussions on contemporary economic issues.
