A workshop on “Mooting and Advocacy Skill” was organized by the Department of Law at East West University (EWU) on July 22 and July 26, 2023. The program was attended by 107 EWU law students from four semesters: Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and Spring 2023. The EWU Moot Committee, which comprised Farzana Rifat Siddique, a Lecturer in Law, Nadia Rahaman, a Senior Lecturer in Law, and Md. Pizuar Hossain, a Senior Lecturer in Law successfully organized the event.

There were four sessions in the workshop. The first three sessions took place on July 22, 2023. The first session was conducted by Ms. Biva Mosharraf, Associate at A. M. Amin Uddin and Associates, on ‘Introduction to Mooting’ while the next one was conducted by Mr. Atikul Haque, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Barrister (Lincoln’s Inn) at the Bar of England and Wales, on ‘Fact Marshaling.’ After the lunch break, Mr. Mohammad Omar Faruque, Assistant Judge, Bangladesh Judicial Services, currently serving as an Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, lectured on ‘Legal Research and Memorial Writing.’ The last session of the workshop took place on July 26, 2023. It was conducted by Ms. Nusrat Jahan, Assistant Judge, Bangladesh Judicial Services, currently serving as an Assistant Director, at Bangladesh Judicial Administration Training Institute, on ‘Oral Advocacy and Art of Presentation.’ During the workshop, the distinguished speakers explained different aspects of legal research and the technical skills required for a successful career as an advocate. In addition, they have offered extensive insights on different aspects of mooting, equipping participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this field.

The EWU Moot Committee is grateful to Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan, Chairperson and Assistant Professor, Department of Law, EWU, for all his remarkable support in setting up the workshop. The committee also acknowledges the valuable guidance of Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Professor and Adviser, Department of Law, EWU, in designing the workshop. We believe their presence in the certificate-giving ceremony invigorated the moot enthusiasts.
