The Election Reform Commission Arranges a Discussion Meeting with University Students at East West University

The Election Reform Commission of Bangladesh, in collaboration with East West University (EWU), successfully organized an exchange of views program with university students to discuss vital electoral reforms and engage youth perspectives. The event was held at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium of EWU on 26 November 2024. The program brought together key policymakers, academics, and students from across the country.

The program was graced by the presence of prominent members of the Election Reform Commission, including Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Chairman of the Election Reform Commission, Dr. Tofail Ahmed, Chairman of the Local Government Reform Commission, and Member of the Election Reform Commission. Other Members of the Election Reform Commission were Dr. Abdul Alim, Dr. Sadek Ferdous, Mir Nadia Nivin, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Jasmin Tuli, and Mr. Sadique Al Arman, he is the student’s representative of the commission and student of EWU.

The event saw participation from 160 students representing various universities across Bangladesh. These students actively engaged in the program, sharing their views and insights on electoral reform issues, emphasizing the importance of fair, transparent, and inclusive elections in fostering a stronger democracy. In his address, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Chairman of the Election Reform Commission, highlighted the commission’s ongoing efforts to enhance electoral practices and underscored the critical role of young minds in shaping a democratic future. He encouraged students to voice their opinions and take an active role in the electoral process. The students expressed their appreciation for the initiative, recognizing the importance of their involvement in discussions about the country’s electoral reforms.

East West University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, thanked the Election Reform Commission for choosing the university for such a significant program and expressed their commitment to supporting initiatives that empower youth and promote democratic values. The program was also attended by Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, the Treasurer, and other administrative heads of EWU.
