National Final of the Astro-Olympiad Selection Held at East West University

The Bangladesh Astronomical Association (BAA) concluded the final selection phase of its annual 'Astro-Olympiad' talent search program at East West University (EWU), Aftabnagar, Dhaka, on July 26, 2025. A total of 350 students from 11 cities across the country participated in this prestigious event.
The Olympiad, designed for school and college students aged 14 to 18, was conducted in three rigorous stages. The initial round at the divisional and district levels included a written examination, solar observations with telescopes, and a rocket model-building competition, among other activities. From the first round, 300 selected competitors advanced to the national level's second round. Following that, 30 students were chosen for the third and final round, which took place in a closed camp. The camp culminated in a written examination on the final day, from which the top five students were ultimately selected.
In this year's competition, Nabil Nahian, a student from Notre Dame College, secured first place in the Senior Group. Radit Raiyan, a twelfth-grade student from Adamjee Cantonment College, and Naumi Manam from Mymensingh Government College secured the second and third places, respectively. In the Junior Group, Md. Makhdum Amin, a tenth-grade student from Jessore Police Line Secondary School, achieved first place. Sahadat Hossain from Unique Progressive School in Mymensingh and Abdullah Shafi Bin Nahid, a sixth-grade student from Bandar Mohammadia Dakhil Madrasa in Chattogram, earned the second and third places.
According to the BAA, these exceptional students will represent Bangladesh at the Open World Astronomy Olympiad, which will be held from September 20 to 27, 2025, in Russia. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the 29th International Astronomy Olympiad and the Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU, as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU, renowned magician Jewel Aich, Russian Professor Mikhail Gabrilov, and Sahapar Alam. The program was presided over by astronomer Moshurul Amin.
