Seminar on Preconception Care and Counselling

The Department of Social Relation of the East West University organized a seminar on “Preconception Care and Counselling” on 31 July 2019. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan, Chairperson, Department of Social Relations of the East West University.
Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Honorary Professor & Advisor, Department of Social Relations; Chairperson, East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT); and Member Board of Trustees, East West University was present as the chief guest.
The presenters were Dr. Runa Akhter Dola, Health Specialist, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital (SSMC&MH) and Dr. Marzia Zaman Sultana, Senior Lecturer, Department of Social Relations of the East West University.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr Md. Mobarak Hossain Khan provided some background information about the topic and highlighted its significance. Then, Dr Marzia Zaman Sultana in her presentation discussed the present condition of maternal healthcare in Bangladesh by analyzing the data of the Bangladesh Maternal Mortality and Health Care Survey 2016. Dr. Runa Akhter Dola elaborated on the concept of preconception care, its components and interventions. Later, Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury praised both presentations and emphasize on public discourses like this to improve maternal and child healthcare in Bangladesh. Following a lively question-answer session, the seminar ends with a vote of thanks from Dr. Khan.
