Webinar Workshop on “Capacity Building in Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Teaching Methods” on Saturday, 4 December 2021

On Saturday, 4 December 2021 the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) organized a webinar workshop on “Capacity Building in Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Teaching Methods” for the faculty members of the Department of Pharmacy, and the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB). Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Basanta Kumar Barmon started the program with his welcome speech. Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EWU delivered his inspirational speech on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in higher education for the faculty members and discussed that it is important to ensure the quality of education in technical programs and develop a confidence among students, Industry, and stakeholders. Professor Dr. Sufia Islam, Department of Pharmacy, and Dr. Suraia Nusrin, Chairperson, Dept. of GEB chaired their own respective session.

Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Huq Azad Khan, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Faiz Hossain, Chairperson, Department of Pharmacy, and Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Associate Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering were present at the workshop as resource persons. At the end of the presentation of each group, the resource persons gave their valuable suggestions about course learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, course curriculum design, development, design of outcome based question paper, teaching methods, and student assessment tools.

A total of nineteen faculty members (sixteen faculty members from the Dept. of Pharmacy and three faculty members from the Dept. of GEB) presented their own OBE teaching methods and student assessment tools. The senior faculty members of the dept. of Pharmacy and GEB were also present at the event.

The participants underscored the need of outcome-based education for ensuring quality in higher education and thanked the EWU authority and IQAC for organizing this workshop. At the end of the program, the director expressed his vote of thanks to all the participants for their active participation in this webinar workshop.
