Workshop On “Language of the Image” by Nayem Ali organized by East West University Photography Club

On July 26, 2025, East West University Photography Club (EWUPC) successfully organized a workshop titled “Language of the Image,” conducted by Nayem Ali, Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The workshop was open to all registered students of East West University and ran as a day-long event, beginning at 11:00 AM and continuing until 5:00 PM, divided into two sessions. The workshop commenced with a welcome address by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of East West University. In his brief yet insightful speech, emphasized the power of photography in creating memories and expressing profound meanings. The first session began with a slideshow presentation on “Light and Shadow.” Nayem Ali then showcased a photo story he had created, conveying a theme of sadness. He elaborated on the nature of light and shadow, as well as how color plays a role in reflecting mood, emotion, and life. The importance of geometric shapes in visual storytelling was also discussed in detail.
During the second session, the focus shifted to photographic composition. Nayem Ali explained various shot types: long, medium, close-up, and extreme close-up, and how they work in visual stories. He shared many examples of compositional techniques, such as graphic composition, the rule of thirds, quality of light, emotion, sense of place, mood, juxtaposition, and other creative methods. His explanations were clear, engaging, and informative, especially for the university’s emerging photographers. The attending students were consistently amazed and inspired by each new perspective shared by the instructor. The workshop was highly interactive, with the instructor thoughtfully addressing all questions from the audience.
