Workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Implementation of Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Program”

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of East West University (EWU) organized a day-long workshop on “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Implementation of Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Program” for the faculty members of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB), which was held on 11 November (Saturday) 2023. The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Suraia Nusrin, Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of GEB.
Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain Howlader, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Wasif Reza, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Additional Director of IQAC, EWU were present at the event as resource persons. Professor Dr. Zakir Hossain Howlader delivered a talk on “Structure and Components of the OBE Curriculum for Biological Science”. He stressed the importance of academic quality education, components of OBE, Program Educational Objectives (PEO), Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs). Professor Dr. Wasif conducted on “OBE Curriculum and Assessment Strategies of GEB Program”. He highlighted the different assessment tools, rubrics, and question setting based on Bloom's Taxonomy and OBE.
A total of eight faculty members of the department of GEB participated in the workshop. There was a group discussion and an open Q&A session at the end of the program. Overall, it was an interactive session. In concluding the program, the Chairperson of the Dept. of GEB thanked the participants and the IQAC for organizing this workshop. The participants expressed their gratitude to the EWU authority and IQAC for the smooth arrangement of the program.
